Halloween treats that are crafty and cheap!

So pretty much every kid loves Halloween. Candy, chocolate, dressing up and scaring people… What’s not to love!

In this post I’m going to show you how to ‘kill two birds with one stone’ and have fun using your crafty skills to jazz up cheap and plainly wrapped treats to turn them into something the Trick or Treaters will have a laugh at.

The Happy Halloween and Trick or Treat? biscuits are Little T’s squiggles – he had lots of fun using the pens and he may have eaten one or two bars too.

For your cheap & crafty tricky treats –

You will need:

  1. Plain wrapped biscuits or candy (we used ASDA Smartprice chocolate digestive bars).

  2. Permanent markers – preferably in a range of colours (we used Sharpie).

Yep. As simple as that!

If you don’t want to use permanent markers you could always cut strips of paper to wrap around and tape onto your bars or sweets, that way you can use pencils or crayons. Which of course is handy if you have younger kids and don’t want to be scrubbing marker off your surfaces… or your children.

So quite simply you just set your kids off doodling scary faces and severed fingers onto the wrappers!

Granted T only made squiggles on his but he really enjoyed it all the same. If you have older children then you could buy quite a few cheap treats, allocate them a certain amount each and turn it into a competition on who can draw the ‘scariest’, ‘most realistic severed finger’ or ‘most unusual’.

This way you can sit back knowing you’ve saved money on fancy treats, entertained your brood and perhaps have a cup of tea while they doodle – possibly finishing the whole cup while it’s still hot too! Bliss.
